Community Demonstration Garden

About the Garden

The Ojai Community Demonstration Garden, located next to Ojai City Hall on Ventura Street, is truly a hidden treasure of Ojai. A peaceful walk through the garden will delight the senses while providing an educational, interpretive self-tour demonstrating drought resistant plants, wildlife habitats, and natural growing methods including composting and an organic vegetable garden.

A primary focus of the garden is waste reduction and water conservation in our own backyards. Semi-annual presentations will demonstrate that through composting and mulching, what we have come to know as waste, can actually be a beneficial resource. Organic garden and orchard demonstrations will show how

beautiful landscapes and productive agriculture can be achieved without the use of toxic chemicals. Habitat and resource conservation demonstrations inspire preservation of local natural resources and encourage participants to enjoy living in a harmonic, interconnected system with nature. The garden also offers periodic workshops, given by local horticulturists and arborists, on various topics such as waste reducing, natural pruning methods, low flow irrigation, and tree maintenance. Upcoming workshop dates are posted on the garden bulletin board.

The Ojai Community Demonstration Garden is a volunteer project of the City of Ojai, and we invite anyone with an interest in gardening, and some time to commit, to participate.

The garden is open to the public every day from dawn to dusk. On site parking is available. There is no cost to visitors and all workshops are free. A self interpretive tour is always available through signage. A docent is available through advanced reservation for private group tours for a nominal fee. The garden and City Hall grounds are available to rent for private group events.

This lovely garden is maintained by volunteers. Our thanks go to Donna Dublin who coordinated the volunteers to create this garden and David  White who maintains this distinctive garden.

Please call the City of Ojai Public Works Department at 805-646-5581 x 200 for information, fees, and insurance requirements. You can also call the Public Works Department if you are interested in volunteering or you can email David.
