OJAI, CA (March 8, 2023) – The City of Ojai will host a Formula Business Community Input Session on Tuesday, March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kent Hall, 111 Santa Ana St., next to City Hall. Residents can also join virtually via Zoom. Formula businesses are commonly referred to as “chain stores” and have standardized merchandise, characteristics and/or marketing. The City is encouraging local businesses and interested residents to provide feedback on the current Formula Business Ordinance and propose revisions to strengthen the ordinance.
“What defines a chain store in Ojai? Is it three sites or 10? Does an online storefront count? What about businesses that start in Ojai? We want to look at some of these questions with the community as we address the ordinance and consider whether it needs to be strengthened,” says Community Development Director Lucas Seibert.
During this interactive meeting, participants will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on these matters, with the City’s community development staff present to note feedback and answer questions.
In the upcoming months, staff will make recommendations about potential ordinance changes to the Ojai City Council. The feedback shared at this community input session will contribute to the development of the recommendations.
At this time, City permits are not issued for the development of any new or expanded formula businesses in an effort to maintain Ojai’s small town character and diverse commercial options.
